FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Landowners
Solar panels are mounted on raised structures. Depending on the design and the farmland needs, dual land use, such as grazing or pollinator-friendly planting can be explored. Our goal is to align with farming traditions. After the lease ends, we will remove equipment and restore your land to unrestricted farmable conditions.
You will receive consistent and dependable income for 20 to 40 years (depending on the designed life of the project). Additionally, the project will create local jobs and increase tax revenue for schools and services, further benefiting the local economy.
During the lease, your land will host solar panels and minimal infrastructure (such as electrical collection system). Depending on your needs, we can discuss accommodating your current farming needs for dual land use during project operations. After 20-40 years, the site will be decommissioned and restored to its original farmable conditions, ensuring it remains a valuable asset for you.
Leasing the land is a long-term commitment, which may affect some land uses during the lease. However, our agreements ensure fair compensation and land restoration. We seek to sit down with you and discuss your needs to ensure our design results in a positive outcome for all partners involved.
The project may increase your land’s assessed value, potentially raising taxes, however, any additional tax costs tied to the solar installation will be covered along with providing full insurance to protect you from liability details that will be customized for your land.
Solar farms are quiet and unobtrusive. We aim to blend thedesign with the local landscape while bringing economic benefits like jobs and taxrevenue, enhancing the community without disturbing its rural character.
Yes! During the development phase you can continue to farm your land without restrictions. Once the project is built and starts its operation phase, and depending on the layout, you can graze livestock or grow a selection of crops around the panels, keeping your land productive while honoring the local community's agricultural roots.
You will receive consistent and dependable income for 20 to 40 years (depending on the designed life of the project). Additionally, the project will create local jobs and increase tax revenue for schools and services, further benefiting the local economy.
A solar project typically requires 5-10 acres per megawatt (MW). For a 100 MW project, we would need 500-1,000 acres. The land selected will be flat, unshaded land near existing grid infrastructure (like substations).
Solar energy produces no emissions or waste during operation, and erosion controls will be implemented during construction and operations. Our design aims to minimize wildlife disruption, ensuring a sustainable, environmentally responsible project.
The development phase can take up to 5 years disruptions to the farming activities during this phase, except for some field studies such as, including permitting, planning, and securing funding. We don’t expect disruptions to the farming activities during this phase, except for some field studies such as topographical and geotechnical surveys. Once development is complete, construction typically takes about 2 years. During that time, you may experience temporary disruptions like noise or traffic. After construction is complete, the solar farm operates quietly.
Our lease is structured for three periods:
- Development phase
- Construction phase
- Operation phase
The development phase may take up to 5 years. If theproject doesn’t proceed to construction after the development period, theagreement outlines termination terms, leaving your land unaffected.
The project will manage any maintenance panel cleaning, vegetation control, and repairs at no cost or effort to you. You simply collect the lease payments. We can also discuss landowner participation in vegetation control as we aim to include local participation.
Many solar projects don’t proceed due to high interconnection costs, permitting delays, or community opposition over concerns like farmland use or visual impacts. Leases are often structured as options, allowing landowners and developers to work together to secure permits, gain community approval, and establish interconnection, but challenges can still halt progress. Your lease will include terms to protect your land and interests if the project cannot be developed.
